This was a countertop sports store display sign. Advertising Bradley Sweaters as they were used back in early 1900 for Football/Baseball uniforms. Very old sports sign & it would be a great item to put in a frame as these just never survived. Made with heavy thick stiff paper.
Great crossover appeal for Sports(football/baseball) & Antique Apparel. Old leather dog ear football helmet. 19 inches tall by 11.25 inches tall. Please see photos as they are considered part of the description. Bradley knitting company was formed in 1904.
By 1914 it was large enough to accept an order from the British government for one million sweaters to outfit soldiers fighting in World War I. The order was duplicated, and when the US entered the war, Bradley made sweaters for the US Army as well. The Bradley slogan was Slip into a Bradley and out-of-doors. They were primarily a maker of sportswear, especially knit wool bathing suits and athletic sweaters.
Several major league baseball teams had team sweaters made by Bradley, and Babe Ruth was pictured in 1926 on the cover of the Saturday Evening Post wearing his Bradley sweater. The Art Deco Bradley plant, built in 1923, is on the National Register of Historic Places.
